It also includes aspects for older grandparents who may be concerned their grandchild will never get to know them before their time runs out.

Key points for professionals working with (safe) forcibly estranged grandparents

There is relatively little known about the hidden but apparently growing issue of (safe) grandparents being actively prevented from seeing their grandchildren with whom there is generally a strong and loving relationship.

As well as experiencing ambiguous grief, there is often shame, humiliation, hiding, and regret that often present in grandparents as long-term depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation and psychosomatic illnesses.

This 'what you need to know' introductory session provides information on key aspects in working with grandparents in this situation including an introduction to ambiguous grief.

It is especially useful for family mediators and lawyers, counsellors and psychotherapists, social prescribers, older people support workers and social workers.
